Questions, answered

The short version: walk, log it, cheer on your team.

Logging your steps

How do I log my steps?

Open the Steps tab, tap the day you want, and type the number in. That's it — it saves straight away and your dashboard, your team total and the leaderboard all update.

I forgot to log a few days. Can I still put them in?

Yes. Any day from the start of the challenge up to today can be filled in at any point. Most people log in batches rather than every single evening, and that's completely fine.

Can I change a day I have already entered?

Yes — your own days are always yours to correct, as many times as you like. Your team captain can also edit your days, which is mainly there so they can help someone who is stuck.

Why can't I enter tomorrow's steps?

Future days are locked until they arrive. If you tap one you'll get told it isn't available yet.

Where do I get my step count from?

Wherever you already track it — your phone's health app, a watch, a pedometer. There's no device to connect and nothing to sync; you read the number and type it in.

Scores and rankings

How is the ranking worked out?

By average, not total. Individually you're ranked on your average steps across the days you recorded. Teams are ranked on their average steps per member.

Why is a small team beating a much bigger one?

Because teams are scored on the average per member rather than the pile of steps. A team of four who all walk a lot will beat a team of forty who mostly don't — otherwise the biggest team would simply win every year.

Does missing a day hurt my average?

Your personal average only counts the days you actually recorded, so a missed day doesn't drag it down. It does mean fewer steps in your team's total, though, so it still costs the team something.

How are the miles calculated?

Roughly 2,000 steps to the mile. It's a rule of thumb for a sense of distance covered, not a measured route.

Everything else

Who can see my steps?

Everyone in the challenge. Individual and team leaderboards are visible to all participants, and daily activity shows up in the feed. It's a shared challenge, so treat your numbers as public.

Who is Coach Stepy?

The friendly bot in your feed. It posts when the challenge starts and finishes, marks milestones along the way, and nudges the team when things go quiet.

What happens when the challenge ends?

There's a short grace period so people can finish filling in their last days. After that the standings are frozen and a results page opens with the winning team, the top individuals and each team's MVP.

I've signed in but there's no challenge to see.

That usually means you aren't on a team yet, or your team hasn't been entered into a challenge. Ask whoever invited you — your team captain can sort out both.
